Kate Allen, from East Ardsley, became a much-loved part of the Best of WF3 Awards in 2023, when Kate’s Mates received the very first Kevin Sinfield Award of Friendship. The award recognised the incredible support her friends gave to Kate, her partner Craig and their family following her breast cancer diagnosis in 2021.
Determined to lift Kate’s spirits and create special memories, her dedicated group of friends worked tirelessly to fundraise and send Kate and her family on a dream campervan trip along the NC500. Their kindness, love and commitment touched our whole community.
Kate was a 'people person', she had friends everywhere she went, and during her courageous battle with cancer, she inspired many more. She was a proud supporter of WF3 Kindness and often shared how thankful she was that her friends were recognised for the way they had come together around her.
Kate was a true inspiration. She showed us that even in the hardest of times, there is always room for a smile, a joke and a moment of laughter. Her strength, warmth and positivity left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Kate loved these awards, and it is our honour that she will continue to be part of them every year through a special award created in her name - a lasting tribute to her kindness, her courage and the community spirit she embodied.

The Kate Allen People’s Champion Award is the only award in our programme chosen entirely by the public - while all other award winners are selected by our judges based solely on the information provided in the nominations, this special award is different.
Every single nominee automatically becomes part of the public vote, giving our community the chance to recognise the person or group who has inspired them the most.
Voting for the Kate Allen People’s Champion Award will open shortly after nominations close, and the winner will be announced live at our Awards Ceremony.
